When Fujian Jiangxia University was founded in 2010, it was built from four existing schools: an economics and management college, an accounting and finance college, a law and politics college, and a finance vocational college. That merger of traditions made the new university, almost from day one, a master’s-degree-granting institution with a distinctly financial and legal character.
Although the university itself is young, its lineage reaches back to 1957. Its campus of 1,388 mu, about 93 hectares, sits in Fuzhou’s university town, built with support from a philanthropic group. The school has made rapid progress: named a provincial application-oriented university in 2018 and a provincial first-class applied university in 2022.
Thirteen colleges and two teaching departments offer 46 undergraduate programs to 14,000-plus students, taught by 800-plus full-time faculty, about 400 of them with senior titles. Beyond its own degrees in finance and public administration, the university jointly trains postgraduates in law, accounting and other fields with Fuzhou University, Fujian Normal University and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. Its programs span seven fields of study, draw students from 23 provinces and regions, and enroll international students alongside students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese communities.
Its applied bent shows in the classroom: two national first-class programs, twelve provincial ones, and 8 industry colleges linking teaching to digital economy, prefabricated construction, asset valuation and other fields, two of them named provincial modern industry colleges. More than 170 practical training bases support hands-on learning.
Research reaches across 26 provincial platforms and journals, including the university’s own academic publications, and the school has built research institutes with provincial government bodies on topics from petitions and judicial administration to rural revitalization and integrity culture.
Internationally, Fujian Jiangxia University works with 33 partner universities abroad in Europe, North America and Asia, runs a Scottish Qualifications Authority program in finance and international economics, and a bachelor’s program in animation with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. It has also run Fujian-Taiwan joint talent cultivation programs in 3+1 and 4+0 modes with universities in Taiwan including Chung Yuan Christian University and Tunghai University. Two national first-class programs may be the headline, but the four traditions that met in 2010 still define the school: economics, accounting, law and finance, each one alive in the curriculum.
